Persistent Gender Pay Gap
While progress has been made, the gender pay gap in Germany remains wide. In 2023, women still earn around 18% less than men—an enduring inequality that underlines the urgent need for fair pay and equal opportunities. Closing this gap is vital for achieving true equality and a stronger future for everyone.
Higher Old-Age Poverty Risk
Despite advances in gender equality, women’s pensions remain significantly lower due to persistent pay gaps and caregiving roles that limit pension contributions. With the risk of old-age poverty set to rise, empowering women through better financial planning and advocating for pension reforms is crucial for a fair future.
Motherhood Penalty
After becoming a mother, many women in Germany face a pronounced pay gap that grows significantly. This “motherhood penalty” stems largely from career breaks and transitions to part-time work, which can limit earnings and slow career growth. We must ensure that motherhood never means sacrificing professional opportunities.
